Avalon Hospital employees honored

On Friday, Jan. 29 Catalina Island Medical Center held a special dinner at Overlook Hall to salute employees who have spent many years serving patients and their families. Special recognition went to seven Medical Center staff members who worked a combined total of 115 years. Medical Center CEO Jason Paret also announced that Laboratory Manager Lyra Garrido, CLS, is the “Delia Martinez” Legacy Award Winner as CIMC’s Outstanding Employee of the Year for 2015.

On Friday, Jan. 29 Catalina Island Medical Center held a special dinner at Overlook Hall to salute employees who have spent many years serving patients and their families. Special recognition went to seven Medical Center staff members who worked a combined total of 115 years. Medical Center CEO Jason Paret also announced that Laboratory Manager Lyra Garrido, CLS, is the “Delia Martinez” Legacy Award Winner as CIMC’s Outstanding Employee of the Year for 2015.

CFO John Lovrich and other senior administrative team members spoke about each award winner as they were presented with commemorative pins and special certificates. The honored recipients were praised for “Excellence in Care for every person, every time.”

Those recognized for their service included: Pixie King, 35 years; Catalina Hooikaika, 25 years; Cristina Grain, 15 years; Josie Vickers, 15 years; Ahnni Garcia, 10 years; Montar Levy, 10 years; and Gary Crowl, 5 years. Lyra Garrido, the first winner of the Delia Martinez Legacy Award Winner as the Medical Center’s Outstanding Employee of the Year was recognized for excellence in her work, the highest standards of service, compassion and respect and thanked for always volunteering to assist with Medical Center activities.

A delicious “Build Your Own” Pasta dinner that was prepared by the Buffalo Nickel Restaurant was enjoyed by almost 50 Medical Center employees and their guests. Other supporters in attendance included Avalon Medical Development Corporation Board member Judy Grear who assisted CEO Jason Paret and Chief Patient Care Services Catherine Rhyne in presenting the awards. Mayor Anni Marshall conveyed the City of Avalon’s congratulations and her own appreciation in a letter read at the event. The Employee Recognition Dinner was a time for special tribute to Delia Martinez by naming the Medical Center’s annual Employee of the Year Award in her honor.  Delia lost her battle with cancer this past December.  

In her years at the Medical Center she showed great dedication to her job and her fellow employees. Her excellent work ethic and the respect and care she showed patients, their families and other staff members was an inspiration to all of her co-workers. Also in attendance at the dinner were Delia’s sister Martha Martinez, mother Rosalba Bastida and niece Delia Montano.

Santa Dominguez, RN as CIMC CARES Chairman spoke about the qualities inspired by the hospital’s employee achievement and accountability program.

“The attributes of good communication, confidentiality, a positive attitude, respect, service, excellence, and the safety of patients and the workplace are reinforced with monthly meetings and frequent activities,” she said.

Congratulations to all of the CIMC employees who received their awards.
