Chamber announces new water conservation initiative

In an effort to encourage water conservation among visitors to the island, the Catalina Island Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau has launched a new program called Island Green.

In recent meetings with area hotels, it was determined that a greater incentive for conservation among visitors would help to reduce consumption even more than the impressive 30 plus percent decreases, already obtained.

Partners felt it was imperative that the message be friendly and welcoming to their guests.

The incentive created offers a discount on the guest’s bill or at another retailer in exchange for foregoing a housekeeping visit.

Water conservation studies have estimated skipping one housekeeping visit can conserve up to 17 gallons of water.

A door hanger that will be prominently displayed in participating hotels guest rooms was determined to be the best way to allow the guests to elect skipping one housekeeping visit by displaying the door hanger outside their room.

Hotels may choose the program that is best suited to them and pick up the door hangers at the Executive Offices of the Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau.

The door hangers are double sided on a coated card stock that is suitable for multiple uses and are available now free of charge to hotels on Catalina Island.
