Girls basketball team wins 19-17

Last weekend the City of Avalon basketball girls team traveled to Garden Grove to play some intense play some intense basketball. For the first half, the Islanders couldn’t find their offense and were playing very nervously.

But heading into the second half the girls found there pace and out-scored Garden Grove 19 to 17.  Hayley Campbell led, scoring 10 points and five rebounds; Madeline Hiniker had 8 points, six rebounds, two assists.

Joanna Garcia and Stephanie Martinez played great defense and left it all out there.

The girls also enjoyed their day in Hollywood heading to Americas Got Talent and even got free t-shirts and a chance to get on National Television—stay tuned for the next tournament.

Also, the girls basketball team would like to thank the whole community for making the tamale fundraiser a great success. The fundraiser delivered more than 100 dozen over three days.
